Where is the Writing Center located and when is it open?
The Writing Center is located on the first floor of the George House on Concordia Row. Fall 2018 hours are as follows:
We offer writing instruction to students in all disciplines. Peer tutors and the Director of the Center meet with students individually to work on class projects, to address specific writing needs and ultimately, to empower students. This is a place for all students: even the best writers can benefit from having someone review their work. The tutors are available to help students with any writing issues throughout the revision process including organization, grammar, structure and clarity, critical reading, citing sources, debate and presentation skills, creativity and confidence. We expect our students to be part of that process. We are not an editing service; instead, this is a conversation between student and tutor. We stress the importance of revision. Writing well takes time and requires practice, patience and hard work. We’re realistic: We realize that student progress is sometimes slow but we hope that little by little, we will begin to see improvement. The hope is that the students will gain a better sense of their writing needs, confidence in their ability to communicate with others and a positive writing community.
